EVENT UPDATE

Over the last few weeks, we’ve experienced unprecedented amounts of rainfall at Camp Sacajawea. While we were hoping that would help make this year’s Gimme S’more Mud Run an extra fun and muddy day, it has surpassed levels that are safe and our property is oversaturated with water and mud.

We have been closely monitoring property conditions and during our site review today, there were too many areas at camp that were overly wet and muddy, creating hazards for anyone who might venture on site. Just this morning, multiple four-wheel drive vehicles became stuck in our parking field, excessive standing water made regular walking paths muddy and slippery, and the water in the planned obstacles on the course has become too deep; risking the health and safety of the thousands of participants.

With the weather forecast continuing to include rain in the coming days, we wanted to give as much notice as possible that unfortunately the 2026 Gimme S’more Mud Run is canceled.

Safety for girls and families has always been a hallmark of our programs and the conditions for this event don’t align with those standards. Our teams have been preparing for the Mud Run for months and we know your Girl Scouts have been anticipating it for quite some time and that you’ve been planning your day. This is not the outcome we wanted, and we share in your grief and frustration for one of our favorite events.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CAN WE STILL GET OUR t-shirts and patches?

We will continue with scheduled t-shirt and patch pickup at our Des Moines Leadership Center today and tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and will allow for additional t-shirt pickup during open shop hours through Thursday, October 1.

For anyone who can’t make it to our Des Moines Leadership Center by October 1, we will be in touch after that with additional details on getting your shirts and/or patches.

Can the Mud Run be rescheduled for a different date?

We, just like many of you, would love to be able to experience the Mud Run on a different date when our property has been given the chance to dry out. Unfortunately, this is not an option due to many factors including not knowing how long it would take for the weather to cooperate in order to be able to dry out; the logistics of hosting a 3,000-person event that requires dozens of volunteers, staff, and vendors; and the extensive preexisting property commitments and reservations through the rest of the year.

Due to the reasons stated above, there is no possibility of rescheduling this event. There is no alternative event or activity to choose from. If the Girl Scout registered for this event, they will still get their t-shirt (and patch if it was pre-ordered).
